Discernment Counseling

If you and your spouse are considering divorce but are uncertain about the best path forward, Discernment Counseling can help. As a trained Discernment Counselor, my role is to assist couples in determining, typically within one to five sessions, the most appropriate course of action. This process involves exploring three main options: continuing along the same path, choosing to separate or divorce, or committing to six months of focused couples therapy with the intention of avoiding divorce.

The primary goal of Discernment Counseling is for each individual to gain clarity and confidence regarding the direction to take, based on a deeper understanding of the relationship and its potential for the future. By engaging in this process, you can make informed decisions and approach the next steps with a clear agenda for change.

If you're uncertain about the future of your marriage and seeking guidance, Discernment Counseling can provide the support and guidance you need to navigate this challenging time.

Discernment Counseling is not suited for the following situations:

  • One spouse has already made a final decision to divorce
  • When one spouse is coercing the other to participate
  • When there is danger of domestic violence
